Books for Kindergarten Preparation

bookskdg

Going to Kindergarten can be a fun but scary time for our kiddos. Here are some books to prepare your child for the transition:

Off to Kindergarten

“A touching story of first-day jitters and hopes, Tony Johnston’s rhyming text is paired with Melissa Sweet’s delightful illustrations!”

Kindergarten, Here I Come!

“This adorable picture book celebrates all the familiar milestones and moments shared by every single kindergartener. Whether it’s the first-day-of-school jitters or the hundredth-day-of-school party, every aspect of the kindergarten experience is introduced with a light and funny poem–not to mention charming illustrations.”

The Night Before Kindergarten

“It’s the first day of school! Join the kids as they prepare for kindergarten, packing school supplies, posing for pictures, and the hardest part of all–saying goodbye to Mom and Dad. But maybe it won’t be so hard once they discover just how much fun kindergarten really is! Colorful illustrations illuminate this uplifting takeoff on the classic Christmas poem.”

Miss Bindergarten Gets Ready for Kindergarten

“It’s the first day of kindergarten and Miss Bindergarten is hard at work getting the classroom ready for her twenty-six new students. Meanwhile, Adam Krupp wakes up, Brenda Heath brushes her teeth, and Christopher Beaker finds his sneaker. Miss Bindergarten puts the finishing touches on the room just in time, and the students arrive. Now the fun can begin!”

Countdown to Kindergarten

“It’s just ten days before kindergarten, and this little girl has heard all there is to know–from a first grader–about what it’s going to be like. You can’t bring your cat, you can’t bring a stuffed animal, and the number one rule? You can’t ask anyone for help. Ever. So what do you do when your shoes come untied–and you’re the only one in the class who doesn’t know how to tie them up again?”

On the First Day of Kindergarten

“This engaging new adaptation of “The Twelve Days of Christmas” convinces parents and children alike that there is no place cooler than a kindergarten classroom.”

Kindergarten ABC

“Each and every day celebrates a letter of the alphabet with a fun-filled classroom scene. And for additional alphabet fun, there’s a search-and-find element on every page… see all. On A day, we find acorns,On B day, we bring in our backpacks,And on C day, we change the calendar. Each and every day celebrates a letter of the alphabet with a fun-filled classroom scene.”

Peppa Pig and the Busy Day at School

“Peppa is having a busy day at school — learning numbers and letters, painting, making music, and playing outside. Peppa can’t wait for Special Talent time, but her excitement turns to worry when all three of her special talents are chosen by others! Luckily, Peppa can revert to her true specialty: jumping in muddy puddles!”

Adventure Annie Goes to Kindergarten

“Annie Grace wears her “Adventure Annie” cape to her first day of kindergarten, and proceeds to barrel through the day, searching for adventure in every moment. Her interpretation of the class’s Gold Star Rules isn’t exactly what her teacher, Mr. Todd, had in mind. But somehow Annie does manage to save the day when two of her classmates get lost on their way to retrieve the afternoon snack. Spirited and funny, this is an introduction to kindergarten that will please kids and teachers alike.”

Classroom Clip Charts

Classroom clip charts can be a great group behavior management system. In this system, the children color in the space for that day on a calendar that gets sent home to the parents each day to see. If the child is on red, there is a parent contact form that goes home to let them know why the child was on red and the parent will send the form back to the teacher.

Task Cards: What Does Not Belong?

Task cards are important learning tools for children with autism and other developmental disabilities to help them to visualize concepts. These task cards focus on the concept of things that do not belong, which is an important, yet often difficult concept for our learners to understand.
